In Belarus, the problem of road injuries among minor motorcyclists does not lose its relevance. From May to September 2026, there was an increase in the number of young drivers injured in an accident. This figure increased by 9% (from 25 to 34 people) compared to the same period last year. This was told to journalists on September 24 by the senior inspector for special assignments of the Department of Prevention of the Main Directorate of Law Enforcement and Prevention of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Roman Bardeev, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.

According to the representative of the department, with the opening of the motor season, internal affairs bodies across the country conducted increased supervision of teenagers driving motorcycles and mopeds.
- The popularity of light motorcycles is rapidly growing among young people, Bardeev said. Managing them (category A1) is allowed from the age of 16. You can prepare for exams in the GAI on your own. To date, more than 3,500 underage Belarusians have received such driving licenses.
In general, over the summer, the number of accidents involving minors and the number of children affected in them decreased compared to the same period in 2025. But behind this positive dynamic lies grave tragedies.
- Over the summer, 8 minors received fatal injuries in an accident, and all of them were passengers of vehicles, Bardeev continued. This is 4 more children than last year. And in these deaths there is an exceptional fault of adults who grossly violated traffic rules, mostly exceeded the speed limit.
Special attention was paid to the behavior of children on the roads.
“The most common violations among the younger generation were the crossing of the carriageway in unspecified places or at a red light, sudden exit to the road, games near the tracks, as well as ignoring the requirement of cyclists to hurry at the crossings,” said Bardeev. The actual problem remains the use of gadgets on the go. Headphones and full immersion in the mobile phone screen when crossing the road, and often while riding a bicycle or scooter are quite common phenomena. Adolescents simply cannot adequately assess the traffic situation, which often entails tragic consequences.
