Yakov Drapilets: what you can and can not do Volgograd on October 22
On October 22, Orthodox believers remember the Apostle Jacob Alfeyev, one of the twelve closest disciples of Christ. In the national calendar, this day was called Yakov Woodmill

In Russia, the date was closely associated with the start of firewood harvesting for the winter, baking pies and a number of strict prohibitions. Violation of some of them, as the ancestors believed, could turn into material losses and diseases.
By the end of October, autumn troubles gradually faded away, and the nights became noticeably colder. The owners checked fuel reserves in advance, insulated houses and brought order to outbuildings.
The people said, “The firewood is being cut.” It was considered extremely important on this day to prepare firewood for the oven, so that winter did not take you by surprise. Men felled and sawed trees, pricked logs and laid them under canopies so that the wood had time to dry.
With the day of Yakov Trucker associated with an ancient belief. Going to the forest for cutting, the peasants tried to appease its owner - boron, or leopard. A pot of porridge and a scrap of bread were left on the stump for him, and a handkerchief was laid for his wife, a hog. People believed that such a gift will not let you get lost, will help you safely return home without getting hurt.
Women checked food supplies, cooked hearty meals and did household chores. Autumn evenings became longer, so families increasingly came together. There was also a warm tradition - bake fragrant cakes and treat them to neighbors.
But the needle or scissors on this day is better not to take. Ancestors believed: you will take up sewing – all year you will have to sew holes in your own wallet. Excess noise is also useless - he could wake the housekeeper, and he in revenge made a mess in the house.
To curse the children on Jacob was not worth it - it threatened small household troubles. It was better to postpone romantic meetings and dates: the sign promised an imminent separation.
Plans for the future were also not shared – it could not be realized. Beware and retell dreams seen on the night of October 22.
Disputes with household members were not welcomed because of household chores. And if someone asked for help with preparations for the winter, it was impossible to refuse, especially the elderly or those who could not cope themselves.
The weather signs of the day were also eloquent. Morning rain or small hail hinted that by the evening, it might snow. And if they were to leave the earth, they would have to wait. Light rings around the moon promised dry summer, and icicles on the roofs - prolonged cold.
