Nordic walking is a type of physical activity in which walking with sticks combines elements of a normal walk and exercise. The technique originated in Finland as a way of summer training skiers and later became an independent direction. Sticks here do not play the role of support, but set the rhythm and include the upper body in the work.

The main feature is the distribution of the load. With the right technique, the muscles of the back, shoulder girdle, arms and abs are involved, whereas they are almost not involved in normal walking. This increases energy consumption and allows endurance training with a relatively low impact load on the joints.

The technique is suitable for people of different ages and levels of training. It is often recommended for recovery from injuries, sedentary work and as a mild cardio workout. It is important to master the technique: the stick is placed at an angle, the hand works from the shoulder, and the step remains natural.
