German authorities said that the boycott of Russia makes it impossible to hold the world Cup-27
German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius said the boycott made it impossible to host the World Ice Hockey Championship and authorities were exploring ways to get out of this situation so the tournament went as planned

The boycott of the Russian hockey team at the moment makes it impossible to host the 2027 World Cup in Germany, said German government spokesman Stefan Cornelius, quoted by Welt.
According to him, the German government is looking for a solution that would allow the tournament. Our goal is to run the tournament as planned. However, given the boycotts that would follow if Russia were admitted, this is virtually impossible. Therefore, now we want to explore possible options in the course of discussions to guarantee the championship, Cornelius said.
On October 30, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ordered the International Federation (IIHF) to allow Russian teams, who have been suspended since 2022 due to the military operation in Ukraine, to participate in the tournaments. It is not yet known how the admission will be carried out.
The next World Hockey Championship is scheduled for May 2027 in Germany. The head of the German Hockey Union, Frank Lutz, said the organization was considering withdrawing from the tournament. The national teams of Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Finland, Denmark and the Czech Republic have already announced that they will not play against Russia at the 2020 World Cup. In addition, several sponsors of the IIHF threatened to refuse the world Cup-2027 in case of admission of Russians, and in Canada said that they will deny Russian hockey players visas for the youth world Cup, which will be held later this year.
On November 4, the IIHF issued a statement of disagreement with the CAS decision and noted that the scale of the consequences of this verdict was clearly underestimated. In particular, the federation said that "the immediate return of Russian teams is fraught with significant practical and sporting difficulties.".
