Belarusian Akim Gnedchik took first place at the European Championships in modern pentathlon in Portugal among athletes under 19 years old, BelTA reports.

In the final, our athlete showed second results in fencing and on the obstacle course and became the best in swimming among 36 participants. Akim's gap at the start of the laser wound was so great that even the 17th time at the distance did not prevent him from finishing first with a margin of nine seconds.
Two weeks ago in Spain Gnedchik became a two-time world champion-U19 (individually and in the relay). Also on September 11, the results of the team tournament were summed up at the continental championship, where Akim, Alexander Chueshkov and Timofey Prokopchik took silver, losing only a trio from Hungary.
On September 11, Belarusian pentathletes won five gold medals of the Junior CHE out of six possible. Earlier, our athletes won personal finals in the U15 category (Klim Gnedchik and Alisa Kvashnevskaya), and also celebrated success in both team competitions.
