Trump: U.S. to begin construction of military bases in Greenland

US President Donald Trump said that the authorities will immediately begin to increase their military presence in Greenland. He said two "very large military bases" would be built on the island.

“No adversary of the United States will ever again be allowed to establish a military presence in Greenland or make important investments there without our written consent,” Trump said at the UN General Assembly.

The U.S. plans to rebuild the Bluie West One airbase in the southern Greenland settlement of Narsarssuaq, which closed in the 1950s, as well as build a new one in Mesterswig, an outpost that now uses the Danish Navy’s Sirius dog sled ski patrol.
