The results of the work of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in his post are far from Russia’s expectations, said the head of the Department of International Organizations of the Russian Foreign Ministry Kirill Logvinov. Mr. Guterres’s actions have seriously undermined the credibility of the global organization.

According to Mr. Logvinov, Antonio Guterres will be remembered for “regular abuse of authority, a departure from compliance with the basic norms and principles of the UN Charter.” “This is reflected in biased political statements, practical steps without consultations with member states,” the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said in an interview with TASS.

Kirill Logvinov believes that it is not necessary to expect any changes in the approaches of the head of the UN Secretariat. “His activity is an instruction to the participants of today’s race for the post of UN Secretary General on how not to behave,” the Russian diplomat added.

Antonio Guterres is stepping down at the end of 2026. He served two consecutive five-year terms. There are eight candidates in his place. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that they do not yet see a suitable candidate for the post of Secretary General.
