Magdalena Andersson, a member of the Swedish parliament and chairwoman of the Social Democratic Workers’ Party, called on the EU leadership to confiscate the blocked Russian assets.
“Take them away and use them,” Magdalena Andersson told Politico. This is how she reacted to the concerns of Brussels about the seizure of assets from the Belgian depository Euroclear. Ms Andersson called on the Belgian authorities to resolve legal issues related to the use of the funds.
After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the EU and the G7 countries froze about €300 billion of Russian assets. Most of the funds are held in Euroclear. Belgium has imposed a ban on their use, as it does not want to take risks in the event of their possible return to Russia.
