Russian military helicopter Mi-8 briefly violated the airspace of Poland, said the operational command of the army of the country. The agency claims that the helicopter took off from the Kaliningrad region and was near the Polish city of Branevo for about 42 seconds.
The aircraft advanced 300 m deep into Polish territory. “The nature of the incident indicates that Russia is once again testing the readiness of our air defense,” the military said in a statement.
When the radar systems of the armed forces recorded the movement of the helicopter, fighters were raised in the air. The ground forces have been put on alert.
In August and September, the Polish military at least three times raised fighters in the air because of Russian military aircraft. This was explained by the movement of the Russian Il-20 aircraft in the Baltic Sea region and “the activities of the Russian long-range aviation striking Ukraine.”.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk believes that Russia may soon organize “hybrid attacks” against countries supporting Ukraine. Similar statements were made in the leadership of other EU countries after German law enforcement agencies found a drone at Leipzig airport next to a cargo plane of the Ukrainian air carrier. Germany accused Moscow of involvement in its launch on the basis of intelligence and the type of device assembly.
