US President Donald Trump is open to making a deal with Iran, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said. Otherwise, he said, the White House is prepared for alternative actions, including sanctions and "some military options.".

“The president is still open to making a deal with Iran that will allow Iran to become what it should be — a great and prosperous state,” Rubio told reporters after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly the day before, Donald Trump said he would make a decision: make a deal with Iran (possibly after the US midterm elections in November) or “destroy the Islamic Republic” and plunge it “in hell.” On the same day, the negotiators of the two countries held a meeting in New York through mediators. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkin said today that he is ready for a deal with the United States, but does not accept pressure.
