US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he did not discuss the idea of a summit of the leaders of the United States and Russia. According to him, these negotiations will require preparation.
“Obviously, the ideal option would be a meeting that will bring results, and for this it is necessary to do a lot of work in advance,” said Marco Rubio after a meeting with Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. However, he noted that the leaders of Russia and the United States could meet at the G20 summit in Miami in December, if Vladimir Putin accepts the invitation.
The Russian-American summit was held in Anchorage on August 15, 2025. The main topic of the meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump was the solution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The leaders described the conversation as constructive and expressed progress. At the same time, no agreements were reached to resolve the situation. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the idea of the next summit exists, but Moscow will agree when the content of such contacts becomes clear.
