A New York court has sentenced former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, already serving time for rape, to 15 years in prison in a sexual assault case against his former assistant Miriam Haley. This was reported by media outlets including NBC News and The Guardian. Miriam Haley accused Weinstein of coercing her into sex in 2006. He himself has not admitted guilt in the case.
The trial lasted more than a year. Last year, a New York court found Weinstein guilty of one count of sexual assault against Miriam Haley. However, the jury could not agree on another count of rape. As a result, the prosecutor’s office withdrew this paragraph, leaving only sexual violence – for which the verdict was issued today.
In 2017, more than 80 women, including prominent actresses, brought charges against Harvey Weinstein. Then investigations and publications about these cases initiated the #MeToo movement. In 2020, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison. Four years later, the sentence was overturned due to irregularities during the trial. However, the producer was not released: in February 2023, he was sentenced to another 16 years in prison on charges of raping in 2013 an actress from Los Angeles, whose name was not disclosed.
