Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Madyar has proposed automatically stripping MPs of their immunity in the event of crimes. He wrote about this on Facebook (belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

“I propose to completely abolish the immunity of members of Parliament in cases of committing crimes for which there is a penalty in accordance with the law,” he wrote. He gave no other details about the initiative.

On September 22, the Hungarian prosecutor’s office sent a petition to the parliament to deprive Peter Magyar of immunity due to suspicions of theft. According to the Agency, the incident occurred in 2024 in one of the clubs of Budapest. Mr. Madyar came into conflict with one of the visitors, who filmed him on his phone, then took his smartphone and threw it into the river, prosecutors allege. The Hungarian prime minister said he was ready to lose his immunity to draw attention to the crimes of other MPs.
