Estonia plans to restore border control with Latvia
The Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE) has submitted a bill to parliament to restore full border control at the southern and northern border.

The Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE) has introduced a bill to the parliament to restore full border controls on the country’s southern and northern borders. Belta writes about it.

According to EKRE, the government is not coping with the influx of illegal migrants, which requires the restoration of full border control at the southern and northern borders of Estonia, i.e. at the internal borders of the Schengen zone.
The party noted that since mid-July, almost 400 illegal migrants have been detained in Estonia, and the temporary detention center in Rae volost is overloaded. The increasing number of immigration cases also puts additional strain on the courts.
- We all understand that this is just the tip of the iceberg, and in fact the country is flooded with illegal immigrants from Africa and Muslim countries, said Martin Helme, chairman of EKRE.
EKRE also introduced a bill to reinstate the paramilitary border guard.
Estonian border guards and police are already conducting checks on trains arriving from Latvia.
- We control the main transport hubs, including the railway, as well as check people and vehicles on the roads, said the representative of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Department.
In recent days, the Estonian police detained 6 foreigners suspected of organizing illegal migration. Last week, police stopped a Volvo car with Latvian registration numbers and a 62-year-old German citizen was driving. In the cabin and luggage compartment of the car, the police identified 7 foreigners without documents. They claimed to be citizens of Morocco and Somalia.
