German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Germany intends to quadruple its computing power in the field of artificial intelligence by 2030.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Germany intends to quadruple its computing capacity in the field of artificial intelligence by 2030 as part of a strategy to strengthen technological competitiveness and attract investment. It's reported by sb.by.

According to TASS, Merz noted that Germany is actively investing in the defense industry, semiconductor manufacturing and AI technologies to improve long-term productivity and ensure the country's economic sovereignty. “Our goal is to create the most favorable conditions for you,” he said, speaking at an investment summit in Berlin attended by representatives of various companies, including energy firm Vulcan Energy and defense company Helsing.
Berlin is keen to attract investment in emerging industries as high prices, bureaucracy and a slow economic recovery put strong pressure on Germany's traditional industrial base. According to the German Chancellor, the economic policy pursued by the authorities is already yielding positive results.
He highlighted the Made for Germany initiative, under which German companies pledged to invest more than €800 billion by 2028. At the same time, the German Chancellor spoke in favor of deepening integration processes within the European Union, which will allow companies to more effectively use the opportunities of the single European market. In this regard, he promised as soon as possible to initiate the implementation of EU Inc., a harmonised pan-European legal framework for commercial enterprises.
Speaking of technological rivalry, Merz reiterated Germany’s goal of quadrupling computing capacity for AI by 2030. To implement these plans, Merz said, he personally “works at the European level” to ensure that AI regulation “opens opportunities rather than closing doors before they even appear.”.
Today, October 20, a major investment summit is taking place in Berlin, where Merz personally tries to attract large international capital to the country. About 200 heads of major German and international companies take part in the meeting. According to the head of the Ministry of Economy of Germany Katerina Reiche, guarantees for investments in the amount of more than € 225 billion have already been received. She clarified that this volume includes only projects worth more than € 100 million. OpenAI will label AI-generated materials for EU users
