The unrest in Tirana began on October 13. First there was a student protest at the building of the Ministry of Education. The next day, demonstrators demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama tried to break through to his residence. The police fought back. After that, the protesters broke into groups and began to smash the buildings of state structures in the center of the capital. The buildings of the parliament, the Ministry of Justice, the state archive and other departments were affected.
The chairman of the leading opposition Democratic Party of Albania, Sali Berisha, said he supported the protests.
Before the clashes began, anti-government rallies took place in Tirana for more than 130 consecutive days. The reason was the project promoted by the authorities to build a resort in the protected area of Viosa Narta on the Adriatic coast. The protesters insisted on the abolition of amendments to the law on protected natural areas and the resignation of the Prime Minister. For the third day in Albania, clashes between police and anti-government protesters continue
