According to Politico, the Pentagon has confirmed the disappearance of some components. The parts were transported by an intermediary on behalf of F-35 manufacturer Lockheed Martin. It is unclear why the equipment ended up in Hong Kong and who has it now.
The case prompted a series of briefings for congressional staff on key national security committees.
According to sources, the party included a cockpit lantern, which is covered with a thin layer of transparent radio-absorbing material that helps hide the aircraft from enemy radar. Only the United States and its allies have access to this technology.
It is potentially possible to reverse engineer a valuable technology if one of these components is present. At the same time, there is no evidence that the authorities of the PRC actually gained access to the details.
