Inspector General of the Bundeswehr Karsten Breuer during his speech at the plenary session of the Prague Defense Summit unexpectedly resorted to a cinematic example - and unwittingly got into an awkward situation. According to the newspaper Bild, a senior military officer quoted the film “Captain America: The First Avenger”, but at the same time tried to pass the phrase as a saying of one of the classics of military theory.

According to TASS, addressing the participants of the summit, Breuer noted: “Wars are not won by speculative reasoning, wars are won by soldiers.” Then he asked with irony which of the famous strategists - Clausewitz, Moltke or Sun Tzu - the interlocutors would attribute these words. When various options sounded in the hall, the general revealed the truth: the quote is not from the works of military theorists, but from a Hollywood blockbuster. According to him, this phrase at least partially reflects the essence of what the experts are doing at the summit.
We are talking about the film in 2011, where similar words are pronounced by Colonel Chester Phillips performed by Tommy Lee Jones. In the original, the hero states: “In war, it is not weapons that win, but people win.” In another scene, the character plays this thought in a more playful tone: "War cannot be won by delicacy, Doctor, in war courage wins." This remark was made in the episode when the colonel threw a dummy grenade at a group of recruits - among them was Steve Rogers, who was to become Captain America. The CSU leader said that the German government “it’s time to add momentum”
