The rapid increase in the cost of diesel fuel in Europe has led to the fact that at each refueling, motorists are now paying 40% more than at the beginning of 2026. It's from sb.by.

As reported by TASS with reference to the newspaper Financial Times, on average for one refueling 50-liter tank drivers have to pay more than € 30. According to the European Commission, on a regional scale, their daily incremental costs since the escalation of the Middle East conflict reach €203 million.
In the European economy, diesel fuel accounts for more than 40% of the consumption of petroleum products – the highest figure among all regions of the world (twice as high as in the United States). This makes Europe more vulnerable to rising prices. According to Juliette Egal, a leading analyst at Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe is “dependent on a highly volatile resource that it cannot control.”.
Europe’s vulnerability to diesel price spikes is a legacy of policies that fueled its use in the 1990s and 2000s. Diesel engines, thanks to higher efficiency, provided less carbon dioxide emissions and cost motorists cheaper than gasoline. This course was abandoned over time as the negative impact of diesel on air pollution became more noticeable.
