In Germany detained a suspect in a deliberate attack on people near Hanover

German police detained a man suspected of deliberately hitting pedestrians in the city of Neustadt am Rubenberg (federal state of Lower Saxony). It's from sb.by.

According to TASS, citing a joint statement by local police and prosecutors, in the evening of October 26, the attacker purposefully sent a passenger car to a small group of people. At least five people were injured of varying severity, from mild to severe. A nearby police patrol opened fire on the offender’s car to stop the attack, but the driver managed to abandon the vehicle and escape the scene.

Currently, the detainee is charged with attempted murder of five people. In the near future, the court will consider the issue of electing him a preventive measure. Data on the age and nationality of the suspect in the interests of the investigation have not yet been disclosed.

According to preliminary information, the attacker and the victims knew each other and are members of large family clans. Law enforcement agencies exclude the version of a terrorist attack or attack on random passers-by. “We are working in an enhanced mode to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify all those involved, especially those who used violence,” said Gwendolin von der Osten, head of the Hanover police department, calling on witnesses to hand over the available video recordings to the investigation.

The Ministry also denied the previously circulated information about the detention of three more people in the case. The police explained that the previous information was published due to an internal technical error, and in respect of these persons carried out a standard check of documents.
