UN Security Council to discuss risks of artificial intelligence getting out of control

The leaders of the largest AI companies will speak at the UN Security Council. They will discuss the risks that powerful artificial intelligence can get out of human control and threaten international security, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Hugging Face co-founder Cléman Delang will address the 15-member Council during the annual meeting of world leaders at the UN General Assembly, according to Reuters.

In particular, Altman plans to urge world leaders to adopt criteria for measuring AI capabilities and assessing protection measures. According to the sources, the main purpose of the meeting is “to shed light on the practical risks of artificial intelligence getting out of control.”.

Council members, including the United States and China, will also present their positions. The meeting will be chaired by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.

In addition, before the meeting of US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, the United States and China discussed the creation of a system of notifications about common goals and threats, including incidents with neural networks at the national security level. D. Trump, speaking at the General Assembly, said that he rejects any attempts to build a globalist scheme of control over AI:

- I'm not going to hold back something bigger than the Industrial Revolution. We will encourage it, not deter it, he said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that rapidly evolving AI poses risks that cannot be ignored. He has long advocated global technology management.
