The Penza Regional Library for Children and Youth will be one of the sites of the cultural and patriotic project “Peoples of the Great Country in Russian Sign Language”. Its participants will get acquainted with the culture and traditions of the peoples of Russia, take part in thematic classes and prepare video stories in Russian sign language.
As noted in the press service of the Ministry of Culture of the Penza region, the project is designed for children aged 10 to 17 years. It will bring together deaf and hard of hearing children, as well as hearing children of deaf parents. The main goal of the initiative is to acquaint participants with the ethno-cultural diversity of Russia and create conditions for joint activities of children.
Participants from 11 cities of Russia will join the project: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Penza, Kirov, Simferopol, Yekaterinburg, Makhachkala, Vladikavkaz, Kazan and Ulan-Ude.
At the first stage, deaf guides and library staff will be trained in the format of three webinars. After that, the regions organize classes dedicated to the culture and history of the peoples of Russia, as well as historical and literary quests.
The next stage will be the preparation of children for the competition of video stories about the peoples of Russia in Russian sign language.
Organizers expect that joint participation in events will help deaf and hard of hearing children to establish communication with hearing peers. A special role in this is given to children for whom Russian sign language is their native or second native language.
According to the results of the competition, it is planned to create a video resource with stories about the peoples of Russia in Russian sign language and with subtitles. The materials will be aimed at familiarizing with the cultural diversity of the country and the development of inclusive education.
The project is supported by the Presidential Grants Fund.
