The Smolensk Chamber Theatre recently showed Love and Pigeons. The play based on the famous film caused a lot of controversy, but most importantly - it did not leave indifferent those who came to watch it. We collected feedback from real viewers to understand: did the director manage to convey that very atmosphere or is it better to just watch the movie?

"Don't even try to compare."

The first thing that almost everyone who has been to the show says is that constantly comparing a production to a movie is a bad idea. “There is nothing to compare with the film, because there are different artists, and the time was different when filming,” the audience explained. And indeed, if you go to the theater with the idea that now on the stage will appear exact copies of the characters from the movie, you can be very upset.

Interestingly, one viewer noted that she liked that the artists did not imitate the film. But then another opinion: the performer of the role of Vasily, on the contrary, tried to copy the manner of play from the film. There were moments where Vasily imitated, even with his look, even his manner of conduct. It even stood like his. It didn't work, well, but he tried to imitate. It is simply not given to a person to play the same way, one of the viewers shared his impression. But even with that remark, she admitted the performance was "just wonderful.".

Easy, funny and from the heart

If we talk about emotions, then here the theater hit the spot. “I really liked the performance, I laughed from the heart, it was easy to perceive,” the reviews write. The production is called “a little simplistic” compared to the film, but in this case it is more a plus than a minus. The audience does not have to strain, they just relax and enjoy the story.

The audience was particularly delighted by secondary characters. Especially those who played grandparents. It was just at the top level, to the point where I'm thrilled. If you watch the whole show, how would I like them the most, the viewer admits. But the actress who played Raisa Zakharovna, according to some, “a little did not fit in.” But this, as they say, is a purely personal opinion.

What was missing?

Despite the general excitement, the audience noticed some details that they lacked. This is mainly about decorations. For example, there was not the same sea, boat and stars where it was written “Eh, Vasya, Vasya...” “I lacked a little scenery, scenery of the sea, the scenery of the boat, the star”, – said one of the spectators.

I also remember the carnival that was in the movie. According to the audience, it was a very good decision to move from one scene to another. In the film, it was a very good decision. But in the theater, unfortunately, we did not see this, she added.

Despite the fact that the performance was “a little simplified than the film”, the audience was satisfied. Someone called it “hello” to his favorite picture, someone just laughed from the heart. The main thing is that the theater did not try to make an exact copy, but offered its own view of the familiar story. And judging by the reviews, this look resonated in the hearts of the smoulders. And when the light pigeons appeared in the finale, it became finally clear - the evening was a success.
