Police in South Korea’s Gwangju District of Gwangsan reported the detention of eight participants in the alleged money laundering scheme

Police in Gwangju, South Korea, said they had detained eight people involved in an alleged money laundering scheme. According to Newspim, about 27 billion won (about 1.7 billion rubles) received from illegal gambling sites passed through accounts controlled by them.
The investigation believes that the group operated from August 25 to October 2. The money went to 15 bank accounts held by other people. Then the suspects distributed funds between accounts and transferred them to the details specified by the organizers of the gambling business.
Participants communicated through the messenger. Within the group, responsibilities for managing money and finding account holders were assigned. For their services, the group, according to police, received about 120 million won.
The investigation began after a report received on 1 September. After studying the movement of funds, police identified the suspects and detained them in several cities, including Daegu and Suwon.
During the searches, 24 phones, 17 ID cards and 3.5 million won in cash were seized. In total, investigators identified 19 accounts drawn up for fake owners.
