In Belfast, there was an incident with an explosion in a residential building: unknown persons planted an improvised explosive device, as a result of which the building received partial damage. According to the BBC, the incident occurred in the north of the city on Friday night.
The explosive device was delivered through a mailbox. A woman lived in the house with four children, all of whom were not injured. Damage affected the front door and the hallway. For security reasons, residents of neighboring houses were evacuated. The investigation is conducted by army explosive specialists.
One of the residents, Nicola Nugent, suggested that the attack could have been carried out by mistake - she could have been confused with another person. First Vice Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly Caroline Cullen (Sinn Fein) described the incident as an “attempted murder”. It is not yet clear whether the case is linked to the political motivation typical of a number of past Ulster incidents.
