"Ready to transfer technology": Shpakovsky on plans to assemble Belarusian tractors in Myanmar

The Council of the Republic and the Chamber of Nationalities of Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. Relations between the countries are actively developing: since 2021, significant steps have been taken: embassies have been opened, mutual trade is growing, and intensive dialogue at the highest level has been established. On the air of the talk show “Budni” on the YouTube channel “SBTV” and “Alfa Radio” Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Alexander Shpakovsky spoke about the priorities of joint work, writes sb.by.

According to the guest of the program, the Council of the Republic uses the opportunities of parliamentary diplomacy to develop the entire spectrum of relations with Myanmar.

- Since 2021, significant steps have been taken, there is a very intensive dynamics of contacts at the highest and high levels, and mutual trade is growing. Embassies open. The Embassy of Myanmar in Belarus was first established on the basis of the Consulate General in 2023, and since the beginning of 2026 functions as an embassy. It has recently been officially opened. The Belarusian Embassy also announced the opening in Naypyido. While the Chargé d'affaires of our country are working there, organizational work is still being carried out, but our diplomatic point is already working smoothly, said Alexander Shpakovsky.

He stressed that parliamentary diplomacy strives to meet the high level of relations set by the presidents of the two countries - Alexander Lukashenko and Min Aung Hlain.

- I witnessed how Natalia Kochanova, at a meeting with the President of Myanmar, conveyed an invitation to her colleague, Aung Lin Two, President of the Chamber of Nationalities of the Assembly of the Union, to come to Belarus on a state visit. The Myanmar side quickly used this invitation. Aung Lin Two is a responsible civil servant and politician, like many of the Myanmar leadership in the past, a high-ranking military commander. We expect that his visit will be an additional impetus to strengthening the entire spectrum of Belarusian-Myanmar relations, the deputy said.

The guests visited the Minsk Tractor Plant, the Minsk Automobile Plant and the First National Trading House, where they assessed the quality and range of Belarusian products.

- Together with the Minsk Tractor Plant, joint production will be launched in Myanmar by the end of the year. Previously, deliveries of Belarusian equipment were sporadic: a high-level meeting, a business forum, contracts are signed, but they have a one-time nature. This is not acceptable to Belarus or Myanmar. We have followed the traditional Belarusian path and are ready to transfer technology. A small batch of car sets, about 100 tractor sets, two models of tractors will be assembled in Myanmar. First, we plan to saturate the domestic market, and if the situation develops positively, we expect to enter the market of Southeast Asian countries together. Our Myanmar friends are attracted by machinery suitable for agriculture in terms of rice production - this is a country competence, rice is the main agricultural crop in Myanmar, explained Alexander Shpakovsky.

He noted that parliamentary diplomacy occupies its place in the general system, and the visit of the head of such a high level further strengthens Belarusian-Myanmar ties.
