“The sword that will kill all Europeans”: Markov on what leads to nuclear escalation in Europe

At a meeting with the heads of law enforcement agencies at the Independence Palace on Tuesday, October 13, President Alexander Lukashenko stated that European countries, including Belarus’ neighbors, have embarked on an unprecedented increase in military spending. According to him, they began to openly speculate on the topic of improving the nuclear potential. In the talk show “Budni” on the YouTube channel “SBTV” and “Alfa Radio”, the Minister of culture Marat Markov explained what will turn out for Europe further escalation, writes sb.by.

Marat Markov noted that today no one can calculate the consequences of a nuclear conflict:

- What does it mean to appeal to the nuclear doctrine of countries that are going to become aggressors? This means that they are ready to launch a nuclear strike against their adversary, that is, Belarus and Russia. The real nuclear powers in Europe are France, which has nuclear warheads. You could say the United Kingdom. But if you believe the figures and data that are available in open sources, not a single nuclear submarine in the UK today is not technically faulty. The UK’s nuclear capability is largely dependent on the US.

And Russia, like Belarus, is building a dialogue with the United States, Marat Markov reminded. And this is very unnerving for Europeans, he stressed:

- So they started talking about their own nuclear doctrine, their own nuclear sword. Not the shield, I emphasize, but the sword! We have deployed nuclear missiles or nuclear warheads to protect our country. It's a defense doctrine. In Europe, our defense is seen as a weapon of attack.

Marat Markov said that France has fewer nuclear warheads than Russia. And in the event of a nuclear conflict, Europe will not be able to defend itself, he said

- Europeans need to think about this. First of all, politicians. Because the real abilities of the "Hareshnik" to date, no one has yet experienced. No one wants a nuclear conflict. It is a sword that will kill all Europeans. That's why we need to negotiate. We must coexist peacefully!

The talk show "Budney" airs Monday to Friday morning on "Alpha Radio". Each issue discusses the most relevant topics from the life of the country and the world. Political scientists, scientists, public figures and journalists of leading media participate in the discussions.
