From the third unit to the second nuclear power plant: Karankevich outlined plans for Belarusian energy until 2050
BelNPP became a key project that changed the energy balance of the country

Belarus plans to build the third power unit of the Belarusian NPP and is considering the possibility of building a second nuclear power plant by 2050. This was announced at the Russian Energy Week by Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich, BelTA reports.
In 2025, it was decided to consider the possibility of building a third power unit. We are now actively working with Rosatom. And in the long term, if you look at 2045-2050, then the issue of building a second nuclear power plant is being studied, the deputy prime minister said.
The Belarusian NPP has become a key project that has changed the country’s energy balance: the plant already generates 40% of all electricity. Karankevich also said that gas generation will remain a highly maneuverable base for housing and communal services and industry, and the share of local fuels and renewable energy will increase annually.
