Istanbul authorities cancel Maxim Galkin concert after mass protests by Turkish activists

The leadership of Istanbul has imposed a ban on the scheduled Sunday performance of comedian Maxim Galkin. About this journalists RIA “Novosti” became known from an informed source.

On the eve of the event, public activists began to massively replicate calls for organizing a rally near the concert hall. The main goal of the protesters was to disrupt the artist’s show.

The interlocutor of the agency stressed that Galkin’s speech was finally canceled due to the official refusal of the city authorities to approve it. According to him, the organizers do not plan to move the event to other days, and spectators will be able to return the spent funds through authorized ticket aggregators.

Based on the data of online booking systems, by the end of the working week, about half of unsold tickets remained at the ticket offices. At the same time, the maximum price for a seat reached about 190 US dollars.

Earlier, a large-scale campaign was launched in the Turkish segment of social networks: hundreds of local residents demanded to disrupt the humorist’s performance in Istanbul and close the borders of the state on a permanent basis. The scandal surrounding the event was covered by the influential conservative publication Yeni Şafak, which caught the showman in double standards. Journalists pointed out that in formal calls for peace in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, the artist openly approves of the actions of Tel Aviv in the Gaza Strip.

Opponents of the showman drew attention to his past statements in the media, where he openly wished the victory of the Israeli side, as well as his stage monologues in which he questioned the fact of the food crisis among the inhabitants of the Palestinian enclave.
