Italian TV presenter Federico Arnaldi admitted that some familiar phrases for Russians still puzzle him

Italian TV presenter Federico Arnaldi admitted that some of the usual phrases for Russians still puzzle him. In social networks, he published a humorous video in which he shared his observations about the peculiarities of the Russian language.
Especially the foreigner was surprised by the expressions “Close your mouth and eat”, “Take yourself together” and “Feet in hand and forward”. Arnaldi tried to present a literal implementation of these instructions and noted with irony that such phrases are contrary to common sense.
The publication caused a lively reaction of subscribers. Users supported the joke of the presenter and began to recall other steady turns that may seem strange to people learning Russian.
Examples suggested included “Hands don’t reach,” “Dying doesn’t get up,” “I came on my eyebrows,” and “One foot here, the other there.” Commentators also drew attention to the paradoxical combination “I got on the bus – I’m standing, food”, demonstrating the unusualness of Russian colloquial speech.
