The Ministry of transport reported a decrease in the number of victims on the railway in 2026

In 2026, several major railways, including the Moscow and East Siberian, continued to reduce the number of victims. The indicator decreased by 16-35%, the Ministry of Transport reported.
To prevent injuries, owners of railway infrastructure equip multi-level pedestrian crossings. On the ground crossings, special designs are installed, called “snakes”: light and sound elements encourage people to reduce the speed of movement and remove headphones. Additional protection measures are fences and alarms warning of the approach of the train.
The Ministry of Transport explained that the main cause of injuries at pedestrian railway crossings remains non-compliance with safety rules. Incidents lead to inattention, the use of gadgets, hoods that limit view, as well as attempts to cross paths in unspecified places.
According to the Ministry, in 2025 the number of accidents on the railway infrastructure decreased by 9.4%.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport presented for public discussion the draft amendments to the rules for placing objects in high-risk areas on the railway infrastructure. The document provides for the introduction of standards for minimum visibility of approaching rolling stock.
The required distance depends on the speed of the train before an unregulated pedestrian crossing. At speeds up to 25 km / h, the composition should be distinguishable from a distance of 150 m, at 26-40 km / h - 200 m, at 41-90 km / h - 400 m, and at 91-140 km / h - 600 m. Since the view depends on the position of the observer, the project establishes a separate condition: it is necessary to assess visibility from a point located no closer than five meters from the extreme rail of the track being crossed.
The proposed norms bring the requirements for railway crossings closer to the rules applicable for the crossing of roads and standards for the arrangement of railway crossings. In these cases, a differentiated approach is also applied: the higher the speed of the train or car, the greater the distance should ensure the timely detection of the transport by the pedestrian or driver.
Earlier in the Bryansk region under the attack of the APU hit the railway transport.
