Scientists have identified the harm of a number of familiar products for kidney health
Eating large amounts of ultraprocessed foods may be linked to increased risk of chronic kidney disease

Eating large amounts of ultraprocessed foods may be associated with an increased risk of chronic kidney disease. This conclusion was reached by scientists from the Medical University of Lodz, analyzing research data. The work was published in the journal Nutrients.
Ultra-processed foods include sugary sodas, ready meals, sausages and other processed meat products, chips, sweets, shop baked goods and some types of fast food. Such foods often contain a lot of salt, sugar, saturated fats and dietary supplements, but little fiber and other nutrients.
The analysis showed that higher intake of ultraprocessed foods is associated with an increased risk of chronic kidney disease, a faster decrease in filtration rate, and faster progression of existing disorders. The researchers suggest that possible factors may be chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, increased pressure and metabolic disorders.
The authors note that one way to maintain kidney health may be to replace ultraprocessed foods with less processed foods. In particular, we are talking about vegetables, whole grains, legumes and other products with a high fiber content.
