In Germany, trains with AI ride on the rails of the time of Kaiser Wilhelm II

Until recently, in a number of areas, for example, in the direction of the Austrian border, traffic safety was provided by alarm posts installed in 1899 - under the last Kaiser of the German Empire Wilhelm II. In such rooms, operators were still able to control movement using levers and handles that were wired to switches. At the end of last year, in the Bavarian city of Muldorf am Inn, the 126-year-old system was replaced by an electronic one. However, the problem persists across the country: almost 1/5 of the arrows on the state railway are still mechanical.
At the same time, many trains in Germany are really advanced. Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility GmbH, says the flagship ICE express has about 1,000 sensors that generate about 1 billion data points every day.
But the heterogeneity of the network prevents the introduction of common digital standards: there are about 100 types of locking systems. This complicates maintenance and does not allow to carry out modernization faster.
