“In the States for this is jailed!”: the American was shocked by Russian morels, but she asked for supplements
The usual package of spring mushrooms almost caused an international scandal in one kitchen. American Sarah saw Russian morels and demanded to throw them away immediately.

In her opinion, such mushrooms are deadly, and their sale in the United States can turn into serious problems with the law, writes Zen channel “Talking about education”.
The owner of the house was surprised by this reaction. For him, morels were a common spring delicacy, which many in Russia wait a year. But explaining to a foreign visitor the difference between mushrooms was not easy.
Sarah found materials on the Internet about poisoning with wild mushrooms and decided that it was a real poison. She demanded to throw away the purchase and even offered to disinfect the table.
The main problem was that the woman mixed different types of mushrooms into one category. Real morels and lines are really similar in appearance, but differ in composition and degree of danger. Some lines contain toxic gyromitrin, which can cause severe poisoning.
At the same time, morels cannot be considered absolutely safe. In raw or undercooked form, they can also cause poisoning, so it is important to correctly identify the type of mushroom and follow cooking recommendations.
In Russia, the collection of mushrooms has long become part of everyday culture. Many learn to understand them from childhood, go to the forest with relatives, dry the harvest for the winter and prepare seasonal dishes.
But tradition doesn't take away caution. Even experienced mushroom pickers can be mistaken, and the appearance does not always allow you to reliably determine the type of fungus. Therefore, confidence in your own knowledge should be combined with compliance with safety rules.
In the described story, the owner decided to prepare morels, having previously processed them. Sarah watched the process with apparent disbelief, but eventually decided to try the dish.
According to the author, first she took a small piece, and then asked for supplements. So the mushroom dispute ended unexpectedly for both sides.
History shows how different people feel about the usual products. For one person, forest mushrooms are a familiar food, for another – an unfamiliar product that causes concern.
However, it would be wrong to reduce everything to the opposition of Russian courage and American fear. The U.S. also collects and sells morels, although the rules for selling wild mushrooms vary by state and product. And in Russia, mushroom traditions do not guarantee the absence of risk.
The main rule remains the same for everyone: do not collect or eat mushrooms unless you are sure of their form and safety.
But the cultural debate that erupted in the kitchen, probably familiar to many. What seems to one an ordinary dish from childhood, for another can look like a real gastronomic adventure.
