Indented spots on apples do not always mean rot
Small indented spots on apples when stored can be a sign of bitter pitiness

Small depressed spots on apples when stored can be a sign of bitter dimpledness. This is not an infection, but tissue damage due to insufficient calcium intake in the fetus during growth. Even with a normal calcium content in the soil, individual apples may be deficient.
Cut the fruit through the stain. Dry brown cork-shaped pulp under the cavity is characteristic of dimpling. Wet soft fabric, mold and a rapidly growing focus rather indicate rot. Only by the appearance of the skin, the diagnosis cannot be established.
Already appeared depressions feeding cannot be eliminated. Apples with dimples sort and use before healthy, and rotting immediately remove from storage. Check the rest of the crop regularly.
In the next season, do not allow excess nitrogen and excessive growth of shoots, maintain a more uniform soil moisture. Large-fruited and sensitive varieties require special attention. Calcium garden treatments can help in prevention, but do not guarantee results. Add calcium to the soil without assessing its condition is not worth it.
The period of relevance for the Kostroma region: early October - late February (period of storage of apples and detection of defects).
