A doctor from Moscow explained why alcohol only increases anxiety

Chief psychiatrist-narcologist of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow region Vitaly Holdin warned: alcohol gives only a short-term feeling of relaxation, after which anxiety and longing often return with a vengeance.

According to the specialist, alcohol affects the nervous system and provokes the release of endorphins. When their level falls, a person receives depression and increased anxiety instead of relief.

There is a second mechanism: alcohol can lower blood sugar levels. By morning, this turns into weakness, trembling and increased anxiety.

The doctor advises to deal with stress without alcohol - with the help of breathing practices, moderate physical activity and observance of the daily regimen. If anxiety begins to interfere with normal life, Holdin recommends not to postpone a visit to a specialist.
