Burn out before the office: how crowded transport steals strength
The head of the RSPP and experts explained how morning trips in the subway and buses hit the psyche.

President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Shokhin raised the problem at the forum “Public transport – 2026”: the road to work in crowded cars and buses becomes a direct cause of emotional burnout. Authorities have an obligation to consider travel time as a key factor in social well-being. After such a trip, a person often takes time to simply “cool down” and recover before embarking on work tasks. Shokhin also stressed that the construction of new residential areas without the simultaneous development of transport infrastructure is categorically unacceptable.
Psychologists agree with this view. Alter platform specialist Evgenia Efremova notes that a trip at rush hour is a big load on the nervous system. The passenger has to constantly endure physical discomfort and adapt to others. If you add to this chronic fatigue, by the end of the route control of emotions becomes almost impossible.
Vladimir Vinogradov, CEO of Pro-Vision Communications, adds: We do not realize how much energy is taken away by the constant hum, scraps of other people’s conversations, stuffiness and the need to protect our personal space and balance every minute. The best solution is to give people a legal opportunity not to push in transport. The development of a hybrid format of work and the creation of comfortable coworkings right in residential areas will return the stolen hours of life to citizens.
However, completely abandon travel until it will not work. The founder of the consulting company InnovaTransport Alexei Smirnov points to an acute shortage of rolling stock during peak hours. To radically unload routes, cities need to actively purchase new transport and solve the personnel issue, attracting more qualified drivers.
