Putin says world sport will return to basic principles

The whole world supports justice and humanism, so the return of sport to its original values is inevitable, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a video address to the forum “Russia is a sports power”, which takes place in Krasnoyarsk.

We know that any change, any transformation is impossible without solid foundations, and there are plenty of them in sport. First of all, I am talking about its main humanistic values – equality, justice, mutual respect, the great unifying power of sport. These values are supported by the absolute majority of the peoples of the world, which confirms, among other things, the gradual return of the world sports family to the basic principles of sports, Putin said.

Russia is open to dialogue and cooperation, stands for the preservation of sports traditions. Russia has always been and remains an integral part, an important part of this family and strictly fulfills all its international obligations and justified requirements.

According to Putin, Russia sees the future of sports in its maximum accessibility, in the active use of innovative technologies, in training and competitive practices, in sports medicine, in athlete training programs, and in education. “We welcome the emergence of new sports. The main thing is that they contribute to the harmonious development of a person, promote the values of a healthy lifestyle in society, the president said.

Putin also believes it is necessary to increase support for national sports. “These spectacular, distinctive competitions are a significant component of the heritage of mankind, a unique tool for education and a sense of patriotism, and respect for other cultures, and therefore, strengthening mutual understanding between people,” he said.
