Petr Jan defeated Dvalishvili in the third fight and defended the UFC title

Russian fighter Petr Yan defeated Georgian Merab Dvalishvili at the UFC 333 tournament in Abu Dhabi and for the first time defended the championship title in the lightest weight.

The match lasted all five rounds, after which all the judges gave the victory to Jan - 48-47, 48-47, 48-47, 48-47.

For Jan and Dvalishvili, this meeting was the third in his professional career. In the previous match, held in December 2025 at the UFC 323 tournament, the Russian won by unanimous decision of the judges and regained the champion belt in the lightest weight. In March 2023, the Russian conceded Dvalishvili by unanimous decision of judges.

Jan won the UFC title for the first time in July 2020, beating Brazilian Jose Aldo. He failed to defend the title, in March 2021, the match against American Aljamaine Sterling ended with the disqualification of the Russian for using a prohibited reception. In April 2022, Jan lost to Sterling in a rematch by a separate decision of the judges.
