The team from the Krasnodar Territory won silver medals of the Russian Sailing Championship in the J/70 yacht class. It included Karen Stepanyan, Bogdan Babenko, Egor Zuev and Pavel Sozykin.
Competitions were held in Mytishchi near Moscow, in the waters of the Klyazminsky reservoir. Participants had to perform under variable wind conditions - from weak to strong winds with gusts. The water remained smooth, without waves.
Among the rivals of the Kuban team were participants of the Olympic Games, world and European champions. According to the Ministry of Sport of the Krasnodar Territory, the competition brought together experienced yachtsmen and young athletes.
Pavel Sozykin said that one of the main difficulties was the changeable weather: the features of the water area made it difficult to assess conditions and predict wind changes. According to him, the result is influenced by the experience of each crew member, team coherence, physical and psychological training of athletes, the condition of the yacht and the ability to quickly make decisions in difficult situations.
Sozykin also stressed that the success of the team depends not only on physical fitness, but also on the relationship between its members, as well as on the support of the region they represent. “The sporting result is not the main and only goal of the team, it is a consequence of the built “human” relationships inside,” he explained.
Recall that earlier Kuban yachtsman became the winner of the Cup of Russia after three months of competition.
