“You don’t have to throw everything in at once!” Love Cherkashin spoke about weight and body positivity in professional sports

The topic of weight control in rhythmic gymnastics will always remain relevant, and modern trends in body positivity are broken about the strict laws of physics and human anatomy. About this on the air of the program "Markov". Nothing personal" on ONT said the head coach of the national team of Belarus in rhythmic gymnastics, winner of the Olympic Games Lyubov Cherkashin.

Lyubov Cherkashin: “If, of course, we talk about such clichés in gymnastics ...” But the themes around weight in rhythmic gymnastics were yesterday, there are today and there will be tomorrow. Of course, in the context of the modern world and body positivity, we have to understand one simple thing: if we come to a professional sport, we have to conform to this professional sport. Yes, you can be super bodipositive, but then you will not succeed in rhythmic gymnastics. Because everything is very simple: you will not withstand the joints of all loads, the feet will not withstand, the back will not withstand. You will not be able to make the elements that rhythmic gymnastics need. But the same goes for the rest of the sport – you have to keep fit. In general, a person in life too.”.

Lyubov Cherkashin: I think that, in addition to body-positive, we should understand that the healthy lifestyle movement has been gaining momentum for a long time. And it is very important to stay active, move, eat right. The information is now simply... It's not that you have to look for her - she's coming at you. Just filter what's right for you. Did you have to limit yourself in childhood? Absolutely! We know that the sport is young. At some point, all girls begin to form an organism. The moment for coaches should be this: support and wait. Of course, there will be changes – someone before, someone later. But then everything depends on many factors: on the family, the formation of the team, the child – how much he wants to continue to engage in rhythmic gymnastics. Will he take care of his food more clearly? I know he might be looking for some chocolate. Well, eat a little, do not immediately throw everything into yourself. You know how it happens: want, want... It is here that willpower is formed at this stage.”.
