The current champion of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) in the lightest weight Russian Petr Yan expressed sincere gratitude to his compatriots for the support provided to him

The current champion of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) in the lightest weight Russian Petr Yan expressed his sincere gratitude to his compatriots for their support.
Last Saturday, the Russian fighter defeated the representative of Georgia Merab Dvalishvili unanimous decision of the referees at the UFC tournament in Abu Dhabi, thereby successfully defending his championship title.
The athlete noted that he was very pleased to feel such large-scale support, wished everyone good health and urged him to always believe in his own strength.
Also at a press conference, the Russian athlete commented on the hypothetical possibility of moving to the featherweight division for the sake of a duel with Australian Alex Volkanovski. Yang admitted that he had not seriously considered it yet, but did not rule out such a development. They have crossed paths in the sport since 2014, when they often trained together in Thailand. According to the fighter, such a scenario could become an interesting story with mutual interest of the parties. However, at this stage, he still has unsolved tasks in his own division. At the same time, he added that if such a fight arouses the interest of both himself and the public, they will definitely make themselves felt.
In addition, Peter Yan took the initiative to organize one of the promotion tournaments in Yekaterinburg. He stressed that a new modern arena with developed infrastructure was built in his hometown, so it would be very attractive to hold a match in Russia. The fighter also added that he is aware of the readiness of local specialists to take over the organization of such a large-scale event.
Assessing the prospects of the fourth match against Merab Dvalishvili, the Russian joked that all his bonus payments traditionally go to the coaching staff and sparring partners. Regarding the possible rematch, he noted that as long as the athletes are alive, any scenario has the right to exist. Ian made it clear that he would not give up such a fight if the UFC leadership showed interest in it, saying it was only willing to take active action.
The champion also shared details of his conversation with the Georgian opponent immediately after the end of the title fight at the tournament UFC 333. According to Yang, the rivals shook hands and briefly exchanged views to clarify the general situation, while the conversation was slightly touched on political topics.
This match was the third in the history of the confrontation of these athletes. In December last year, Petr Yan, whose record is 20 wins and 5 defeats, regained the UFC lightweight championship belt, taking over Merab Dvalishvili (21-5). It is worth noting that in their very first meeting, held more than two years before the rematch, the Russian athlete was defeated. The current victory over the Georgian fighter was for Jan already the 13th in the framework of UFC tournaments.
