Polish authorities have ordered the expulsion of four Russian citizens and 11 Belarusian athletes suspected of trying to circumvent restrictions on participation in the World Karate Championship. This was reported on October 19 by TVP World.
A group of Russian and Belarusian karate fighters was detained by border guards in the city of Bielsko-Biala, where the world championship among cadets, juniors and athletes under the age of 21 ended on October 19.
According to TVP World, the athletes entered Poland on tourist visas. The Polish border guards gave each of them eight days to leave the country.
The inspection began after the appeal of the organizers of the competition. They reported the appearance of a Russian citizen at the judging courses, which caused suspicions from the Polish side.
As suggested by the Polish authorities, the athletes could expect to get into the list of participants of the championship after arriving at the venue of the tournament. As a result, 15 citizens of Russia and Belarus were expelled.
