On November 17, a friendly match between the national teams of Russia and Venezuela will be held at the Ozon Arena.
For national teams, this will be the first face-to-face meeting in modern history. A curious historical fact: the only match between the teams took place during the Soviet era - on February 1, 1981, the teams drew with a score of 1: 1.
The rival of the Russian team is a relatively strong team: at the Copa America in 2024, Venezuela reached the quarterfinals. In the group stage, the Venezuelans won three victories in a row - over Ecuador (2: 1), Mexico (1: 0) and Jamaica (3: 0). In the quarterfinals, the team drew with Canada (1: 1), but lost in the penalty shootout.
In 2026, the national team of Venezuela held a number of international matches: won over Trinidad and Tobago (4: 1) and Iraq (2: 0), drew with Uzbekistan, South Korea and Jordan (all meetings - 0: 0), but suffered defeats from Turkey (1: 2) and Japan (1: 2).
For Valery Karpin’s players, the upcoming game will be the second in the November FIFA international window and the final in 2026. Before that, on November 12, the Russian team will meet with the team of Uzbekistan in Tashkent.
Information about the start of the match, ticket sales and broadcast will be published later, the press service of the RFU reports.
