Shafranov on returning to Metallurg: “Sometimes you wait for such an offer all your life”

Yesterday at the post-match press conference after a successful match for Metallurg - a 5-1 victory over Siberia - the new head coach of the club Konstantin Shafranov was asked what emotions he has from returning to Magnitogorsk after so many years.

The Metallurg mentor admitted that returning to Magnitogorsk, where he spent a bronze season in the mid-90s and a gold season in the end, evokes positive emotions:

“It is a memory that remains forever. Especially the first championship, the first medal. Such events in life are never forgotten.”.

He thanked Viktor Rashnikov for the invitation to the team and the managers who made the offer: “Sometimes you wait for such an offer all your life, so you can not refuse.”.

Shafranov himself has a connection with Magnitogorsk since his playing career: he played for Metallurg in the 1990s and became the champion of Russia and the champion of the Euroleague as part of the team. But the experience of the head coach of the KHL team is his first. Prior to that, the mentor assisted in various coaching teams of clubs.
