Smolensk region will make native Russian tavreli a new intellectual sport

At the forum “Russia is a sports power” in Krasnoyarsk, the Smolensk region made a bet on the development of national intellectual sports. The regional government signed a cooperation agreement with the Russian Taurel Federation. The document was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Smolensk region Anastasia Gapeeva and the President of the Federation Yuri Dolzhenkov.

Tavreli is an ancient Russian intellectual game often referred to as “Russian chess”. It combines deep strategic traditions and a modern sporting approach.

The main goal of the agreement is to popularize this discipline in the region, organize competitions and develop the intellectual potential of young people. Special attention will be paid to the creation of infrastructure: the project of opening the Taurel Center on the basis of the famous archaeological complex "Gnezdovo" is already being worked out. This step will allow the Smolensk region to expand its sports palette, making the sport even more accessible and diverse for each resident.
