“It was obvious to him that bridges had to be built. And at the same time, it automatically followed with whom such bridges should not be built, the former chancellor said at the opening of an art exhibition in the Bundestag. According to Angela Merkel, the first chancellor built bridges between employers and workers, men and women, ecology and economy, town and countryside, and between faiths and generations.
“Today I would add to this: between people with and without a migration background,” Merkel said. She added that building bridges has become more difficult than before. However, this should remain a benchmark for the people's party, the former chancellor stressed.
Angela Merkel from 1990 to 2021 represented in the Bundestag constituency of Mecklenburg – Western Pomerania. She won the direct election here eight times in a row.

In the elections in Berlin, the party took second place, gaining 18.8%. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the vote a disaster for his party.
