The lifting of US sanctions is not directly related to the actions of the European Union, its sanctions policy. Therefore, having learned about this statement from the public sphere, we consider it as a matter of bilateral relations, Budris said in an interview with the portal of Lithuanian national television and radio LRT. The Lithuanian foreign minister added that he sees no reason to revise the European restrictions.
In June 2021, the European Union banned the import of potash fertilizers from Belarus, and a few months later, the United States imposed direct blocking sanctions against Belaruskali. Since February 1, 2022, Belarusian fertilizers have ceased to flow through the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda. Traditionally, almost the entire annual volume of Belarusian chlorine exports passed through it. In December 2025, the United States reached an agreement with Belarus to exclude the company from sanctions in exchange for pardoning 123 political prisoners.
