Princess Diana's younger brother, Earl Charles Spencer, has apologized to journalist Piers Morgan for writing about him in his book Swan Song. Diana, my sister, reports the BBC. In his memoir, he made the factual mistake of calling him the editor of the Daily Mirror, which published "extremely salacious photos of Princess Diana in the gym" in 1993, while Morgan was not in that position at the time. Mr Morgan called the allegations a "fabricated lie" and threatened trial.
Earl Spencer acknowledged the mistake, stressing that accuracy was important to him as a historian. Piers Morgan accepted the apology but said his lawyers would work to remove the controversial pages from the book. This can lead to the destruction of the entire circulation of the first edition. According to the BBC, its publishing house Penguin intends to correct this point in future editions.
Speaking to the BBC, Morgan questioned whether the rest of the memoir could be believed if Earl Spencer was wrong even in basic facts. The book claims, among other things, that King Charles III, after Diana's death, said, "We will soon forget about her" - and looked happy after the news of her death.
