According to TASS, the entrepreneur in a podcast of The Times newspaper said that this body could combine elements of organizations that monitor the regime of compliance with the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons or climate agreements, and an international aviation regulator. “You want politicians to build expertise within government, but there’s a whole set of institutions that needs to be built around these challenges,” Gates said, noting that the development of AI “will change the way invention is made,” which will dramatically affect people’s lives.

The businessman is surprised that many people do not understand the importance of what is happening, and universities and think tanks are not very involved in the discussion. In his opinion, this is due to the lack of not only a unified system of global control over the development of AI, but also some regulation within countries. This leads to the fact that this technology sphere is regulated by the developers themselves, who put their interests first.

The Times acknowledges that the chances of such an organization appear slim in a situation of growing international disagreements and a huge financial component.

Gates also pointed out that if AI is left to the market alone, the most effective tools will be created primarily for the people and organizations that are most able to pay for them, not necessarily for those who could benefit most from them.

That’s why the Gates Foundation has pledged to donate $1 billion over the next two years to make sure that doesn’t happen: tailor technology to make it linguistically and culturally important to those who use it, and make it affordable. EU prepares global rulebook to counter AI threats
